Floyd Donald MacDonald
1932 – 2013
Floyd passed away gently in his home on Tuesday, August 20th, 2013. Floyd was born on December 4, 1932 to his parents, Irene MacDonald (nee Irving) of La Ronge and Norman MacDonald (born in Ardrossan, Scotland). His birthplace was in Cedar Lake, Manitoba where his father was a Post Manager for the Hudson’s Bay Company. Part of Floyd’s early childhood was spent in Bonito, Manitoba where he shared some memories of his life with siblings Kathleen (Holburn), Bill, Kenneth, Sandy, and Jeanette , all of whom predeceased him. Phyllis (Simonson) was the youngest child and only surviving sibling. After his family moved to La Ronge, Floyd remained in Manitoba with a farming family whom he fondly remembered as instilling a hard work ethic and frugal life style. Floyd was a labourer since he was 15 where he logged in northern Manitoba and in later years turned to mining in various places such as Kenora, Ontario and British Colombia. Eventually, Floyd joined his family in La Ronge where he met his former wife, Elizabeth Charles. Together they had three daughters, Kathleen (Brooks McMullin), Ruth (Dave Morrow) and Dona Hill. He was predeceased by his grandson, Martin Nelson, and is survived by grandsons Matthew Nelson (Andrea Still), Steven Robertson (Angel ) and Mike Robertson ( Reva ) along with great granddaughters Zara and Zoe. Floyd is also sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. After intermittently spending time in the hospital during the past four years, Floyd was able to enjoy his last years at home thanks to his housekeeper and special friend, Mary Constant. He enjoyed driving people around in his beloved truck right to the day before his passing. Floyd would like everyone to remember him by his favourite saying that ‘everything is copacetic’. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations to the Prince Albert Food Bank are greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Floyds’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Val Bodnaryk. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
