The family of Fern Matilda McLachlan (Smythe) age 93 sadly announce the peaceful passing of their mother on January 14, 2012. Fern is survived by her eight children, Marion (Jim) Penna, Marilyn (Todd) Farnham, Marvin (Bonnie), Melvin (Sheila), Manley (Jan Kernaghan), Morris (Sue), Marlene (Dan) Gotell, Michael (Deb Nelson); 24 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; 5 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 2000 by Elden her husband of 62 years. Mother was born in Albertville, SK and lived in Candle Lake area. She married Elden in 1938 and helped run a farm and hardware stores in Weirdale and Foxford, SK. From 1947 to 1989 she helped run Waskesiu Park Services and McPhee Lake Cabins, store and coffee shop. Mom was admired by all who knew her as a kind, patient, hard-working, loving and hospitable woman of many talents. She lived alone for five years and then with family until her health required nursing home care in June 2011. We are grateful for the excellent care provided by the staff of Jubilee Lodge, Kinistino. Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Stefano Penna officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19th, 2012 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Stefano Penna. Reception will follow each service. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made in memory of Fern to Jubilee Lodge, Box 370, Kinistino, SK S0J 1H0 or Charity of the Donor's Choice.
