HANSON-Evelyn Franceslate of Spruce Home, SK passed away November 19, 2010 in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 92 years. With great sadness we announce the passing of Frances Hanson born on June 15, 1918 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to parents Leigh and Lola Lemon. Frances was educated during her elementary years in Zanesville, Ohio where she lived with her parents and brothers Wilfrid and Eugene. Returning to Canada in 1930 at the age of 12, she went on to complete her grade twelve at PACI in Prince Albert and her teacher training at Normal School in Saskatoon. Frances taught school in one room schools until her marriage to Palmer Hanson on February 26, 1941. She and Palmer lived at Hanson’s Hill, Spruce Home, where they farmed and raised their five children. Frances will be remembered by her family as a very caring mother who was outgoing and full of energy, capable of doing and making anything. Married for 68 years, she worked hard to help Palmer with the demands of farm life and took on additional projects to provide extras for her children. She prepared nutritious food including the grinding of her own organic wheat to make bread. She loved having friends stop for meals and she so enjoyed planning and holding outdoor parties for large groups of friends and family on special occasions. She was generous in helping and making things for others or giving what was needed. She and Palmer loved to travel with many trips to Phoenix to join the cousins for the winter months. In late October, 1990 when he was 86 and she 72, they drove from Saskatchewan, to Alaska, the Yukon, Vancouver and back to Saskatchewan. Nothing was more enjoyable for them than packing the camper or suburban and traveling to the local Lakes, northern Saskatchewan, Manitoba or Alberta and even to central Mexico with many an adventure along the way. Frances did some sub teaching in elementary and high schools, taught painting and sewing and created many lovely things in ceramics, millinery and feather flowers. Many years ago a collection of her hand crafted feather hats and matching corsages was sent to an exhibition in Scotland. Her greatest love, her painting began in 1938/39 with lessons from Gus Kenderdine at Emma Lake Art School, now U. of S, Kenderdine Campus, and later from George Swinton (1976) and Prince Albert’s Bea Barnett. She was an Honorary Life member of The Kyla Art Group of Prince Albert, SK. one year winning “People’s Choice”. Her paintings are held in private, corporate and public collections. Frances will be greatly missed by her family and friends and remembered for her strength of character, her creativity and her ability to overcome challenging situations. She is survived by her five children, Paul (Eialeen) Hanson, North Battleford, SK., Gail (Tony Charnish), Surrey, B.C., Carol Hanson, Saskatoon, SK., Ralph (Gerry) Hanson, Spruce Home, SK, and Martin (Brenda) Hanson, Big River, SK., her seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Ginger (Craig) Koolick and son Max, Saskatoon; Jennifer (Leslie) Dziwenka and daughters Jelena and Milana, Bermuda; Crystal Hanson (Travis Wagar) Warman; Birch Hanson (Amanda Cadrin) Saskatoon; Ashley (Chad) Rokosh and son Carter, Lloydminster, SK.; Kenzie Hanson, Saskatoon; Skipp Hanson and son Thor, Saskatoon.
