Eunice May Adamson, late of Shellbrook, SK peacefully passed away January 29, 2021 at the age of 97 years, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her sons Jim (Margaret) and Warren (Lorraine); her grandchildren Wendy (Kerry), and Jana (Josh); Daniel (Cindy), Sarah (Carl), her great grandchildren Jensen (Matt), Tyler, Addison, Lucas, William, Caden and Connor. She is also survived by her sisters, Clarice, Joyce and Beatrice, as well as numerous nieces, nephews.
Eunice was predeceased by her husband William, her brother Floyd, her sisters Bernice and Francis, as well as William’s two brothers and six sisters and their spouses.
Eunice was born at home near Admiral, SK on January 6, 1924. In 1931, the family moved north eventually ending up in the Mossy Vale District, near Nipawin, SK. She worked at Pas Trail store and talked about how she walked 12 miles to go home on weekends. She met her husband William Adamson at a lumber camp where they both worked. They married May 12, 1944 and had 2 sons, Jim and Warren. In 1959, the SaskPower Corporation bought them out and they purchased the Lindsey farm north of Shellbrook. Eunice and Bill farmed together for many years. Eunice was a true pioneer woman who could bake bread, feed hogs, gather eggs, and calve out a cow all before lunch. She worked alongside Bill driving the grain truck, stooking bales and helping him fix machinery, all while growing a garden that produced enough to feed them and their friends. She and Bill loved to play board games with their friends and neighbours. Family and friends were always welcome, and Eunice prepared delicious food for anyone who came to the farm. She rarely found a recipe she didn’t try.
In 1976, Warren and family built a house just to the north of the farmyard. Eunice was very happy to have her granddaughters close by and spent a lot of time with Wendy and Jana. Our family jokes about how she would send Wendy and Jana home for lunch and they would be back before Gramma and Grampa had eaten theirs. Along came Dan and Sarah and Eunice and Bill were able to make some trips to Toronto area to spend time with their newest grandchildren. In later years she went on two cruises with Jim and Margaret.
Eunice loved to be the family’s historian and had an incredible memory for details. Family was her number one priority. Eunice never felt old, she remained interested people of any age and could relate to anyone. Her musical talent was a gift she shared by singing in the church choir for 53 years and playing keyboard for the local care homes and nursing home residents.
Eunice had to say goodbye to Bill in 2007, and she missed him dearly. She was able to carry on without him with the help of her family and friends. In November of 2019, Eunice decided to move into Shellbrook, where she resided until her passing.
