Esther Bernice Nagle passed away peacefully on April 2, 2015 at the age of 96. Esther was born in Rosthern, SK on November 1, 1918. She resided in Prince Albert for the greater part of her life with her husband Bob and their four children. The experience of living through the hard times of the “dirty thirties” and World War II instilled in her the value of being thrifty and resourceful which she practiced her entire life. With only a few staples, she could make the most delicious meals. Esther was the gourmet chef of leftovers. Gardening became one of her passions and the pantry and freezer were packed every fall with the fruits of her labour. All of Esther’s children can recall many happy memories of summer weekends they spent at the Candle Lake cottage. In retirement, Esther and Bob spent every summer at the cottage, taking many walks along the beach and rarely missing a beautiful sunset. After Esther’s husband Bob passed away in 1993, she continued to live in her home. She still had enjoyable times at the summer cottage with her sons’ families, and occupied her city time tending to her garden and flowerbeds. In winters she was busy knitting mittens and scarves for her grandchildren and attending some of their many activities. Esther’s main focus in life was always her family. She treasured the times she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 2011 at the age of 92, Esther moved to Birchview Home in Birch Hills. She became involved with all of the activities and enjoyed every minute of her life there. Birchview became her new home and the caregivers became part of her family. In the summer when visitors arrived at Birchview, they would often be met by Esther at the front of the building. She would be outside soaking up the sunshine and observing the progress of the vegetable garden. She will be remembered for her broad infectious smile and her genuine interest in the lives of those she knew. Esther is survived by her four children Gwen (John) Green, Gord (Delyla) Nagle, Pat Gladstone (Rick Hovdebo) and Bob (Janette) Nagle; her grandchildren Janice (James) Dobchuk, Stacey Green (Rob Rossi), Michelle Nagle, Cheryse (Rene) Quintal, Jason (Carrie) Gladstone, Scott Gladstone (Amanda Brown), Jim (Jessica) Gladstone, Stephanie Nagle (Greg Frondall), Katrina Nagle and Natasha Nagle (Keenan Kohut); her great-grandchildren Alexa, Toran, Tavin, A.J., Brenner, Brianne, Prestyn, Tiffany, Carter, Kolby and Chloe; her sister Vera Pollock; her sister-in-law Elsie Remple; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Nagle in 1993; her brother and sister-in-law Wes and Mary Hofmann; and her brothers-in-law Charlie Pollock and Clare Remple. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Birchview Home in Birch Hills for the love and care they gave to Mom. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Birchview Care Home Facelift Fund, Box 578, Birch Hills, SK S0J 0G0 for upgrades to the décor of the Care Home. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
