LUKAN, Erwin
July 12, 1932 – August 6, 2023
Erwin was the fifth of six children born to Mary and Henry Lukan in Humboldt. In 1945, the Lukan family moved from Fulda to Mattes, a small hamlet near Debden, where they farmed. Erwin met his future wife, Marguerite Gaudreault, who was working in the general store in Mattes. They married August 9, 1955, and continued to live on the Lukan family farm. They later purchased the Mattes township which became their home. Erwin’s carpentry skills were used building schools in Kindersley, Kerrobert, Tramping Lake and Debden. Erwin and Marguerite were unable to have children and were fortunate to adopt two boys, Simon and Michael. When the boys were ready to attend school, they returned to their farm in Mattes. A few years later, they welcomed their daughters, Colleen and Donna-May. Erwin kept busy with farming and working for the Parkland School district building and repairing. The church was always an integral part of his life. He helped build the Debden church and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree knight. Erwin’s life was filled with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved visiting the farm. They always planted a beautiful garden and generously shared the harvest with loved ones. There was always lots to do and memories to be made. They remained on the farm until 2017 and then moved to Saskatoon until the present day.
Erwin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Marguerite, his four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Simon (Bev) Lukan (Stanley and Ian); Michael (Jenny) Lukan, grandchildren Alexandrea (Kirah, Kowin and Kristjan), Rebecca (Hannah), Anthony (Melissa) and son, Michael and Samantha (Ben); Colleen (Randy Schlichemeyer), grandchildren Janine (Amelia and Charlotte), Michelle, Tyler and Rachelle. Donna-May (Dwayne Fiddler), granddaughter, Emerson.
