Ernest “Ernie” Cochrane
October 31, 1932 – December 1, 2013
On Sun., Dec. 1, 2013 Ernie Cochrane went to heaven just in time for Christmas. He was born in Fenton, SK. on Oct. 31, 1932, a Hallowe'en treat for his Mom & Dad, Irvine & Beatrice Cochrane. Dad was passionate about his career in aircraft maintenance and engineering and, as a result, met many people and developed numerous lifelong friendships. He started in the R.C.A.F. and went on to work for Sask. Gov't. Airways, Norcanair, Athabaska Airways and then for his son, Ron, doing consulting work. Dad was a people person and loved visiting, having coffee and playing games with family and friends. Special to his heart are Sam & Iris Smith, Bob & Evelyn Dubray and Joan & David Crofton whom he and Mom spent many happy hours with. He was an avid hunter and eagerly looked forward to hunting every year when he would get together with his buddies at the cabin at Christopher Lake. We enjoyed so many fun times at the cabin and Dad loved being with his grandchildren, catching frogs, teaching his grandsons how to change spark plugs, hunting, skinning bears, giving them ski-doo rides and sitting around the campfire for countless wiener roasts. There are many wonderful & happy memories with Dad that he has left as a legacy and we are forever grateful. He leaves to mourn his passing the love of his life, Hazel, whom he married almost 60 years ago; son, Ron (Diane) Cochrane, grandsons, David (Kim) Cochrane, Jeff (Krista) Cochrane, granddaughter, Michelle (Jason) Zalewski; daughter, Andrea (Randy) Wiser, granddaughters, Marci (Faron) Polowski, Megan Polowski, Kaitlin (Roko) Polowski, grandson, Matthew (Kayla) Polowski; daughter, Joan (Dale) Dirks, granddaughters, Corinne (Greg) Slobodzean, Riki (Craig) Dirks; daughter, Cheryl (Brian) Hrytzak, granddaughter, Niki (Jay) Brisebois, grandsons, Cody Wozniak, Courtney (Jess) Wozniak, Keaton Wozniak; daughter, Nancy (Tim) Keller, granddaughters, Carly (Rejean) Lepage, Kristie (Taylor) Keller, grandson Brady (Jayde) Keller; daughter, Colleen (Conrad) Adams, granddaughter, Chloe (Lewis) Kapacila, grandsons, Jesse (Niki) Kapacila, Josh Kapacila, James Kapacila and 20 great grandchildren; brothers, James (Jewel) Cochrane, Dale (Darlene) Cochrane and sister, Mary (Bill) Norman. He was predeceased by his parents, Irvine and Beatrice Cochrane; brother, Lorne and sister, Pearl. Dad was always so proud of his family and considered himself “the western producer”; he was known for his sense of humor and love of life. We would like to thank Dr. Randy Friesen and the nurses in ICU and 4th floor of the Victoria Hospital for the tender care they gave him. Because of Dad's love for his pets and animals in general, we would ask that donations be made to the S.P.C.A., PO Box 1832, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6J9. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at a later date.
