It is with great sadness that the family of Emily Mary Ramstead announces her passing on Saturday, November 30, 2019, in Prince Albert, SK. Emily was born on Friday, October 1, 1937, to Fred and Mildred Dixon. She was the younger sister to Eileen. At the age of five, the family moved to Victoria, BC, so her father could work in the shipyards during the war and her mother worked at the Empress Hotel. It was during this time that Emily and Eileen considered the Becon Hill Park to be their backyard. She spent time going back and forth from Victoria to Bjorkdale and ended up going to high school in Chelan, SK. That is where she met and married Lyle Ramstead on August 10, 1955. Together they owned and operated the Chelan Garage and the bulk oil and fuel delivery service. It is during the next 25 years that they developed many friendships with the people living in and around Chelan and became known as huge supporters of the community. After the closing of the garage, Emily became a part-time worker at the nursing home in Porcupine Plain. After retiring from the nursing home, Emily’s pride and joy was her garden, her flowers and vegetables, she could also be found anywhere there was a card tournament or Bingo in the area.
Emily is survived by her son, Lorn and his partner Sheri Schultz; her grandson, Cory and his wife Jill, and their children, Zachary, Liam and Zoe; her granddaughter, Chrissy and her husband Rex Chequer; and many more relatives from the Dixon, Kelley, and Ramstead families. She was predeceased by her husband, Lyle; her mother and father, Mildred and Fred Dixon; her stepmother, Carol; her sister, Eileen; her brothers-in-law, Paul and Herman Lupien; and many members of the Dixon, Kelley, and Ramstead families. There will be a Memorial Service for both Emily and Lyle to be held in Chelan in the spring, which will be announced at a later date.
