Position Overview:
The Sturgeon Lake First Nation is now accepting applications for one (1) dynamic, highly motivated individual for a full-time, permanent position of the Emergency Response Coordinator. The Emergency Response Coordinator will play a critical role in planning, organizing, and executing emergency response initiatives. The primary purpose of this position will be to assist the SLFN Crisis Team with the implementation and ongoing evaluation of community all hazard emergency response plans; and increase the awareness and concern for emergency planning. This position will also assist in mapping projects to prepare for future emergencies.
The Community Safety Team Lead is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance community safety for Sturgeon Lake First Nation. This role involves working with local stakeholders, service providers, law enforcement agencies, and community members to help ensure the safety and security within the community. Using a community-focused approach, this position will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing a team of Community Safety Officers. The Safety Officers’ team will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the community of Sturgeon Lake.
Directives
- Collaborate with community leaders, emergency services, and stakeholders to create comprehensive emergency management plans tailored to the unique needs and challenges of the community
• Organize and coordinate emergency response activities, including communication protocols, evacuation procedures, emergency shelters, and resource allocation, to ensure an efficient and effective response during crises
• Identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities in the community, conduct risk assessments, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and enhance community resilience
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with community members, leaders, and external partners to raise awareness of emergency management protocols, promote community engagement in preparedness efforts, and ensure effective communication during emergencies
• Participate in training programs, and workshops on emergency preparedness, response procedures, and relevant safety measures
• Serve as the primary point of contact between the community, government agencies, and organizations involved in emergency management, fostering collaboration, and coordinating resources for effective emergency response
• Maintain accurate records of emergency response activities, and incidents for reporting requirements
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Work with community member and groups to identify safety concerns and collaboratively develop strategies to address them.
Program Development
- Design, implement, and oversee community safety programs including crime prevention, neighborhood watch, and youth outreach initiatives.
Partnership Building
- Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement, government agencies, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to coordinate community safety efforts.
Safety Assessments
- Conduct safety audits and assessments within the community to identify areas for improvement. Make recommendation for prevention though safety strategies.
Crisis Intervention
- Provide crisis management support in the event of emergencies or community disruptions. Work closely with emergency services and coordinate community responses.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Monitor statistics, safety incidences, and community feedback. Prepare reports for stakeholders on community safety progress and areas needing attention.
Education and Outreach
- Lead educational initiatives such as workshops, safety campaigns, and public meetings to inform employees and community members about safety measures and prevention.
Grant Writing and Budget Management
- Support initiatives to secure funding for safety initiatives through grant writing and manage the adhere to budgets for community safety programs.
Shift Management
- Create and distribute work schedules for Safety Officers to ensure adequate staffing levels, managing employee availability and maintaining coverage.
Policy Development
- Contribute to the creation of local safety policies and practices, advocating for changes where needed to improve employee and community well-being.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Education
- Experience working with First Nations communities
- Previous experience as a supervisor or team lead
- Previous experience in security or first response
- Knowledge of public safety strategies and techniques
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- First Aid and CPR Training
- Good interpersonal skills and demonstrates professionalism
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to lift 40 pounds and have good mobility
- Provide Criminal Records and Vulnerable Records Check
- Must live a Healthy Lifestyle
