Emelda Clara Chenier
Our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Emelda Clara Chenier, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Mont St. Joseph in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 94 years. Emelda was born to Donat and Marie Gignac on January 30, 1918 in a one room log house near Albertville. She was the second eldest of a family of thirteen children. Emelda married August “Albert” Chenier on July 7, 1939 at Shipman, SK. He owned the hotel there which was later traded for a farm in Garrick. Together they raised their seven children on the farm until his passing, at which time mom moved to Albertville with the family. Mom will be remembered for her large garden and flowers which she shared generously with family, friends, church and many others. Emelda was predeceased by her husband August; her daughter Louise; her parents Donat and Marie Gignac; brothers Lucien and Damien; sisters Lucienne and Dorelice; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She will be sadly missed by her children Leon (Rose) Chenier of Prince Albert, Elise (Adrien) Gobeil of Prince Albert, Yvette (Ronald) Lavoie of Albertville, Yvonne (Alain) April of Prince Albert, Estelle (Luc) April of Prince Albert, Adrien (Arlene) Chenier of Saskatoon and Raymond (Janet) Chenier of Prince Albert; 17 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; sisters Rose Boutin, Mathilda Dussault, Sr. Hélèn Gignac, Sr. Angeline Gignac and Elise (Andre) Brulé; brothers Rodolphe “Ralph” (Georgette) Gignac, Ubald (Flore) Gignac and Raymond (Gaetane) Gignac; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A special thank you to all the staff at Mont St. Joseph for the care they provided. Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 with Yvonne Nakonechny officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 with Celebrant Reverend Father D.J. Vu. Both services will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Albertville, SK. Interment will be held at Albertville Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Mont St. Joseph, 777 – 28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2.
