Elvin Reimer
1951 – 2011
Elvin was born May 3, 1951 in Flin Flon, MB to Mary and Henry Reimer. He grew up in nearby Creighton and Denare Beach. As a young man, he spent time in Winnipeg, Saskatoon and on the West Coast, before returning to obtain his degree in Resources from Lethbridge College in Alberta, and subsequently becoming a Conservation Officer with Saskatchewan Environment. He spent time in LaRonge (where he met his wife Nancy), Southend, and then three years as the first permanent officer based in Pinehouse, SK.
After a stint as district manager in Preeceville he returned with his wife and young family to LaRonge in order to specialize in fire control, his main area of interest, as Regional Fire Manager for the LaRonge Region, where he remained for the next nine years. In 1999 he accepted a position in management at the Provincial Fire Centre in Prince Albert. Elvin loved the outdoors and spend many happy hours hiking, camping and hunting with his father, brother(s) and friends, as well as family camping trips, skiing, and playing ball with his wife and kids. This love for sports and the outdoors kept him healthy and fit, and he spent time coaching minor hockey and ball in Meath Park, as well as baseball with the P.A. Minor Baseball Association.
Elvin was a giving person, a loving and caring husband and father, he was infinitely proud of his children’s accomplishments. A man of humour and compassion, he was quick to see the worth in others and became a friend and mentor to many. A man of integrity and conviction, he stood up for what he believed in. His quiet courage and strength will remain an inspiration to all who knew him.
Elvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years, Nancy; his children Benjamin, Jennifer, Jesse, Miranda and Zachary; his brother Leonard (Judy) Reimer; his sister Helen Reimer – all of Saskatoon; his sister Anna (Larry) Brakstad of Nipawin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Mary Reimer and his sister Velma Reimer.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796 – 15th Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Wayne Olson officiating. Memorial donations may be made towards Cancer Research.
