Elva was born September 19, 1928 to Margaret and Edward Gerrish at Melfort, Saskatchewan. She was the fourth child in a family of five. Elva would walk to Vaughn School which was one mile from her parent’s home to receiver her education. Elva married the love of her life Ronald Douglas Ferguson on July 6, 1949. To this union they were blessed with five children. They spent the next thirty years in a mixed farming operation where Elva provided the family with all their basic food needs by growing a huge garden, canning and raising chickens. She was a terrific homemaker and support for the family. In 1979 Elva and Doug retired to Melfort to start a new phase of their life as city dwellers. They enjoyed the socialization with neighbors who became good friends. Elva welcomed visitors to her home always providing coffee and her fresh baking. Elva and Doug wintered in Arizona for thirteen years making new friends that became their winter family. Following Doug’s passing in 2001 Elva remained in her home with her families support. When the time arrived she made moves to Diefenbaker, Assisted Living, and then Parkland Place always finding a new circle of friends. Elva will be missed by her family who will always treasure the time they have shared together; Connie (Morley) Stewart, Bill (Mary) Ferguson, Glenn (Sandi) Ferguson, Jerry (Heather) Ferguson, Jim (Eunice) Ferguson, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and her sister Audrey (Jim) Larson.
