Elva Doreen Daugherty
(February 20, 1929 ~ August 31, 2011)
Elva was the third of four children born to Lester & Mary Harwood on February 20, 1929 in Naicam, SK. Elva was raised on the family homestead and attended Violetdale School. She moved to British Columbia in late teens, where she worked as a nanny and housekeeper.
In British Columbia, Elva rekindled a relationship with Hubert Daugherty from Lac Vert, SK. Hubert & Elva were married in Vancouver, B.C. on September 3, 1951. They settled in the Columbia Valley of British Columbia, where they started their family of three children; Deryl, Marion & Donald. After short stints of farming in Alberta and Saskatchewan, they returned to the Columbia Valley, until retirement in 1988, when they moved to Naicam, SK. Elva moved to Caskey Place in Melfort, SK, in August 2000 where she was lovingly taken care of by the Home Care staff.
Elva is survived by her children Deryl, Marion (Leroy) & Don (Rose); grandchildren Tonya, Jolene, Nicole, Kathlyn & Blaine; great grandson Shawn; brother Gerald (Evelyn) Harwood and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Hubert; parents Lester & Mary Harwood; brother Delmar Harwood; sister Marine Fishe; brother Leroy Harwood and nephew Ronald Lee.
Funeral service was held Monday, September 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Melfort Funeral Home. The speaker was Mr. Shane Lofgren. Interment followed at Pleasantdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Elva, may be directed to The Arthritis Society.
