Elmer Braaten

Mr. Elmer Lorne Braaten passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Jubilee Lodge in Kinistino, SK, at the age of 87 years.
Elmer attended school in Windermere. He was ambitious and at a young age, began working for various farmers in the summer and working in Northern Manitoba in the winter. In 1950, he began working with National Grain in Weldon and eventually this position took him to Clemens, Melfort and Saskatoon, earning him National recognition for his achievements with Cargill Ltd.
He married his first love, Lorene in 1950 and they were blessed with the birth of their son Randy. Elmer liked to keep busy and if he wasn’t busy at work he liked to spend time socializing with family and friends. During his life he enjoyed many vacations south. He was known for his sense of humour – but called a spade a spade. His hobbies included auction sales, garage sales buying and selling tractors, old Western movies and of course – Farming.
Lorene passed away on August 4, 1981. Elmer continued to live in Saskatoon until his marriage to Christine Berge in 1984.
Upon his retirement, Elmer & Christine moved to an acreage in the Hagen district. Christine passed away August 19, 2014, and Elmer sold the acreage and moved to Senior Housing in Birch Hills. In July 2017, he was admitted to the hospital and from there went to Jubilee Lodge in Kinistino where he resided until his passing.
Elmer is survived by his son Randy (Carolyn) Braaten and their family: Kara (Mike) Mountney and children Marcus, Kayla, Brooklyn, Jordyn; Jana (Mike) Horner and children Caitlin, Andreas, Reyenna; Cameron (Dene) and children Zachary, Mateaus; Stacey and her daughter Daisy; Courtney (Evan) and daughter Halle; his step-son, Richard (Sandy) Berge and their family: Chase (Brandy Johnson) and their daughter Olivia; Spencer; and Madison ; his siblings Grace Pawliw and Carol Kury ; his siblings-in-law Bill McConnell and Elaine Strinholm ; and numerous, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is predeceased by his first love Lorene; his second wife Christina, sister Joyce McConnell, brothers-in-law George Pawliw and Bill Kury.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Birch Hills Lutheran Church, 428 Bellamy Avenue, Birch Hills, SK with Pastor Clint Kuntson officiating.
