Betty Park, late of Shellbrook, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre on December 14, 2014 at 87 years of age. She had courageously faced uterine, breast, kidney and lung cancer in the last 20 years and never let any of these struggles change her outlook on life, always living life to the fullest.
Betty was born to Tom and Celia (Luck) Ingram on July 23, 1927, who farmed at that time in the Rayside district near Shellbrook. She was the eldest of six children. She attended school in the Shellbrook district but “boarded out” in Prince Albert to complete her Grade 10 high schooling at PACI Collegiate. She wrote in her memory book that this was a very frightful year coming from a one-room country school into a big school with a different teacher for every subject. She persevered though and was always very proud of achieving her Grade 10 status. She wanted to be a secretary and did eventually use her skills working at AJ Chambers and Westbury Hardware in Shellbrook and later helping her husband in his business partnership of PSP Construction.
Betty and Harvey Park were married on October 26, 1949 in Shellbrook and were lifelong partners in everything. They built their house on Main Street in Shellbrook in 1958 and Betty was very proud to tell everyone that she was still living in it after 56 years. She cared for Harvey after his stroke in 1994 and after his death in 2001, she carried on with the house and the yard. Her home was always known as the gathering place for all of her family and friends; everyone was welcome and the coffee was always on.
Betty is survived by her two sons: Doug (Marcella Brosinsky) Park of Neilburg, Sk and their children, Renée (Earl Zimmerman) of Humboldt, (children Brooke, Jarek, Sienna and Ryker); Lea (Brenen Polkinghorne) of Martensville and their son Sam; Brett (Danielle) of Regina and their daughter Zaeya; Don (Marlene Diehl) Park of Prince Albert and their children, Deena (Daniel Simair) of Saskatoon, (children Willis and Lucia); Kyla (Robbie Golightly) of Saskatoon, (children Kinsey and Adelyn); Robert (Jen Wilson) of Calgary.
She is also survived by one brother Ken Ingram and his wife Evelyn of Shellbrook; sisters-in-laws, Jeannette Ingram of Shellbrook and Loretta Ingram of Stettler, Alberta and, a brother-in-law Hugh (Marlene) Park of Comox, B.C., sisters-in-law Kay Coult of Surrey, B. C., and Doris Sims of Cranbrook, B.C.
She was predeceased by her husband Harvey Park, her parents Tom and Celia Ingram, sister Shirley Puddicombe and brothers Gordon, Marvin and Ted.
