Elizabeth “Betty” Joan Batiuk
1938 – 2013
Betty Batiuk passed away peacefully with her loving husband and family by her side Friday afternoon at the Victoria Hospital. Betty was born in Prince Albert on June 19, 1938 to Isabelle and Bill Kosowan. She was the eldest of four children. She met John while she was working at Safeway and they were married a short time later. They were married for 47 years and were inseparable until the end. Saturdays were a shopping tradition with her mother, her son Barclay, and niece Miranda. It was rare that they missed a Saturday on their tour of the SAAN store, The CB, Kresge’s, and the Co-op. Betty loved the spring and preparing for the gardening season. Her window sills were filled with milk cartons overflowing with various tomato plants. Her summers were spent outdoors enjoying the sunshine and tending to her garden and flower beds. Betty was an exceptional Grandmother, her eyes lit up around her grandchildren and she loved spending time and spoiling them. She was an invaluable part of the children’s lives from an early age, helping out whenever needed. Special thank-you to her sister Jan who spent hours by her side in the hospital, her mother-in-law Rose, her sister Carol, her niece Miranda; her sister-in-law Anne; Nick and Marie Kalinowski and Auntie Lena for all of their love and support; her dear friend Rose (Jack) Cowan, Dr. Halyk and the staff on the 6th floor of the hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her ever adoring husband John Batiuk; her son Barclay (Andrea Switenky) Batiuk and their children Ethan and Sydney; her brother Bill (Glenda) Kosowan; sisters Carol (Richard) Balon and Jan Kosowan; brother-in-law Ernie (Jean) Batiuk; sisters-in-law Ann (Roger) Mayert and Marie (Gordon) Tkachuk; mother-in-law Rose Batiuk and numerous aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and family. Betty was predeceased by her mother and father, Bella and Bill Kosowan and numerous aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with The Reverend Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
