Elenor Bateman
(March 29, 1937 – July 27, 2011)
Elenor Ethel (Armstrong) Bateman was born on March 29, 1937 at Lady Minto Hospital in Melfort, SK. Elenor’s childhood was spent on the family farm southeast of Melfort in the Central Park District. She attended Central Park School. Getting to school meant going by horse and buggy, walking or sometimes an occasional car ride.
Elenor was employed by Safeway Stores in Melfort, Lethbridge and Saskatoon, She also worked for Sears and Prairieland Casino in Saskatoon. Elenor retired in 2003.
Elenor resided in Saskatoon for many years. It was there that she met Ross Bateman, the love of her life and they married April 11, 1963. Elenor loved flowers and plants as one could tell by looking at her yard. We all know how immaculate she kept her gardens at home. She also loved playing cards, doing pettipoint pictures, cross country skiing, dancing, entertaining her family and friends and shopping. During their work years, she and Ross spent holidays in Phoenix, Arizona, at the cabin at Emma Lake and at the Armstrong family farm. Upon their retirement, Elenor and Ross moved to Melfort to be closer to her family. In retirement, she was an active participant in the Central Park Ladies Club.
Elenor is survived by her brother Murry (Carole), nephew Doug (Michelle), her brother Earl (Gloria), as well as aunts, cousins and many close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Reginald “Ross” Bateman (June 25, 2011), her parents Leslie (Bud) and Myrtle (Groseclose) Armstrong, her father and mother-in-law Jim and Ileene Bateman.
A Memorial Service will be held from St. James Presbyterian Church, Melfort, SK on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the Columbarium at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Melfort, SK.
If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be directed to St. James Presbyterian Church.
