In loving memory of
Eleanor Beatrice Claxton
October 19, 1943- December 14, 2024
Eleanor Beatrice Claxton (née Branigan) was born on October 19, 1943 in Kerrobert, SK, and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 14, 2024 in Cudworth, SK. Eleanor will forever be in the hearts of her children: Thomas Claxton, Jennifer Claxton-Viczko (David), Erin Claxton, and Russell Claxton (Marta); twelve grandchildren: Richard (Sudyin), Jessica (Karl), Mylan (Emily), Morgan (Billy), Faith, Ty, Darius, Melody, Addyson, Indianna, Ella, and Amelia; and nine great grandchildren; sister Arlene Branigan; sister-in-law Patricia Branigan; and brother-in-law Glen Mosier, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Eleanor is welcomed by her son Ryan Claxton; parents Philip and Irene Branigan; and siblings, Jim, Inez, Patrick, Don, Evelyn, and Gerry. Eleanor had a passion for learning, attaining her Bachelor of Nursing from McGill University, Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Calgary. She was extremely driven, completing her practicum in Argentina at the remarkable age of 64. Eleanor will be remembered for her adventurous spirit as she lived, worked, and traveled through every Canadian province and territory. She spent much of her life up north and in the prairies, where her compassionate nature led her to work as a public health nurse, mental health and addictions counselor, social worker, as well as a group home operator for at-risk youth. Eleanor also enjoyed traveling the world, exploring places such as Africa, South America, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. Her competitive attitude made her excel in sports like softball, where she earned the title “Grand-slam Grandma”. She instilled her love for active living and nature to her children and grandchildren by building a loving home in Tweedsmuir, SK. Her grandchildren have fond memories from this home including baking, camping, going to the lake, horseback riding, and enjoying the warm environment she created. By being fiercely independent, innovative, and resourceful, she was able to maintain this welcoming home for all. Eleanor’s kindness and big heart will have a lasting impact on everyone who knew her as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
The family wants to extend a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Cudworth Nursing Home for all of their care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please direct all donations to the Cudworth Nursing Home. Arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau at Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, at 1-306-233-4403.
I Belong to the Prairies
For the prairie has its own wealth
On its landscape gold and green,
The prairie has its open sky
And nothing small or mean.
And all this view is mine to keep,
This country fair and free,
For I belong to the prairies,
And the Prairies belong to me.
