Eileen May Wen
Born April 27, 1951 Prince Albert
Died August 16 2017 Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert Eileen’s childhood was probably one of her happier times, she was surrounded by family and friends, that seemed like family. We lived right by the river where we had potato and corn roasts, played cowboy and Indians, hide and seek, kick the can, tag, caught clams and fish( ate the fish let the clams go) found fools gold and always watched the ice break up in the spring. As pets there were dogs, cats, hamsters, chickens and a rooster, ducks, rabbits, budgies etc. If that wasn’t enough we would go out to grandma Stevens who had cows and a horse. At grandmas there was Auntie Cristy, Auntie Hattie, Auntie Grace, lots of aunties and uncles too many to name. No one locked the doors except if a prisoner escaped. Uncle Ron Stevens, Uncle Earl Stevens and Uncle Walter Stevens were more like big brothers to Eileen. She attended Queen Mary School until grade 6, when we moved to Saskatoon, she attended Pleasant Hill School and E.D. Freehan High, just down the block from our Dad’s house. From then on it was only a cat or dog(s). Eileen had many illnesses that affected her life, life style and emotionality but she managed. She cared for her dad, Nick Wen, Auntie Katie Wen and finally her mom, Claire Wen after her stroke. She always had friends but her dogs were her confidants. Eileen’s brothers and sister were all across the country, and could not give the support she needed so she moved back to the best place Prince Albert, where she found some truly great friends and relatives who helped and supported her and appreciated what she could give and could advise her. Eileen would help everyone if she could and save every dog that needed a home. She knew all the dogs in the trailer court and had treats for them when she walked coco and ceecee( not sure how she spelled ceecee) Her true friends were amazing when Eileen was in the hospital, they fed and walked her dogs, checked the trailer and notified the family plus much more. They are Richard and Carol Hayward, Phyllis Hayward, Muriel, Jan and Cody,Shirley, and then Vivian Maebry, Stu Pocha, Marion Wall and many more. I am pretty sure Eileen passed away only after being promised her her two little dogs ,the loves of her life, would be well taken care of. She was never wealthy or healthy by societies norms, but she had more wealth than most when you consider her deep friendships and the love of her dogs. She was brought up a Baptist and learned to love and trust God early on but found God in many churches. If you want to know Eileen’s history, just go to the Lindsay Cemetery, where our history goes back to the 1800s. Ven. Andrew Hoskins said prayers for her at the hospital and then again at, her graveside service which was attended by friends and relatives. I would like to thank the ladies that made that possible plus all the snacks that were served. Eileen is survived by her brother William Wen and his wife Barb, her sister Gladys Lundvall, uncle Ron Stevens and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews, and of course all our cousins in Prince Albert. She was predeceased by her brothers Ronald Cyril Wen and Vincent (Ben) Howard Wen. If any one would like to make donation in Eileen’s memory please choose one that saves or cares for dogs in need.
