Effie Cook

On New Years Day, 2025, Effie Estell Cook (Tice) passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Born to Joe and Jennie Tice on January 19, 1927, Effie spent her early childhood years on the family farm near Birch Hills, SK. When it was time to attend school, Effie went into town to live with her grandparents. Not long after, her grandfather died, leaving Effie to help Grandma Tice look after the home, which doubled as a boarding house. She was taught many of life lessons from a very young age, instilling in her a great sense of duty, hard work, and discipline.
But Effie had a softer side as well. She carried herself with grace and a humble demeanor. Her heart was compassionate and kind. Her words were honest and wise.
On October 26, 1949, Effie married the love of her life, Daniel James Cook. Effie and Dan worked tirelessly to make a good life for their family, which quickly grew to three children. Dan farmed and Effie took up work at the Birch Hills Post Office. They remained active during those years with school activities, Air Cadets, 4-H, hockey, figure skating and church. Dan passed away in 1987, and Effie was left to look after the farm for the years that followed.
In those years, Effie continued to be involved with the Birch Hills Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, and was instrumental in starting the “Life Still Goes On” grief support group for widows, with the local United Church. Effie found it rewarding to learn that she had helped others through sharing her own experiences. She was a U.C.W. lifetime member.
Effie was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie, and friend. She was a homemaker, cook, seamstress, gifted writer, master baker, and welcoming hostess.
Family gatherings saw anyone entering her warm and beautifully decorated home be offered an abundance of freshly baked goodies, food, and drink, which went on from the moment they stepped foot into her home, until the moment they left. Stuffed with food and full of memories, stories, and laughs to cherish well into the future.
Effie was a truly remarkable woman who touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She cherished her family and lived life to the fullest. She loved her community, and she found great satisfaction in being a part of it for her entire lifetime.
“Life is not always fair nor as we hoped it would be, but we are thankful for the times we are together. We remember the times of joy, of births, of graduations, and weddings, always remembering our loved ones who are no longer with us.” We will always remember you, Effie.
Effie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kelvin (Cheryl), and Roxanne (Orlan) Peterson; grandchildren, Scott (Kathy), Andrew (Marla), Robin (Alex) Scott, Jillian Cook-Robarts (Mered Robarts), Jordan (Abby) Cook, Joshua, Jared (Hannah), Kristen (Brandon) Allen; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Evan, Sydney, Sawyer, Holden, Hunter, Dylan (Faith), Kamryn, Kori; Leo, Jett, Sonny, and their mother Amanda; Georgia, Jonie, Louis, and Pete. Effie was predeceased by her husband, Daniel; son, Robert; and her great-grandson, John Gabriel Cook.
