Edwin Wilfred Thomas Slater
1918 – 2013

Dad passed quickly and quietly on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the age of 94 years in the care of the wonderful staff of Herb Bassett Home losing his battle with pneumonia. He was born in the Royal district just south of Prince Albert to Mary and Edmund Slater on June 26, 1918. He married Teresa Adams on October 9, 1940. He joined the army in 1941 serving overseas for four years in WWII. After the war he began working at the Saskatchewan Federal Prison in Prince Albert retiring in 1978 to enjoy many years with Teresa wintering in Arizona. Dad is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Teresa; his daughter Glenda Sharp; his son Bevan Slater (Bonnie); his grandchildren Dale Sharp, Christine Slater (Stacey Laursen), Carrie Slater and Amy Slater; his great-grandchildren Kara, Krista, Carter, Anthony, Gage and Blake; two step great-grandchildren Ohdin and Kai; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his daughter Glennis; his son Alan; his parents; his in-laws George and Christena Adams, his four sisters Margaret, Gladys, Frances and Mary and one brother George. Even in his last days he still talked of the love he had for his family. His commitment to Teresa knew no bounds. The family extends great thanks to the caring staff of the Herb Bassett Home, your care and support also knows no bounds. We are also grateful to Dr. Elmer for his care of Dad through the years. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with the Reverend Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to St David's Anglican Church – elevator fund or to the Herb Bassett Home Auxiliary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
