1948-2014
On Sunday, August 31, 2014, Edward Grant Gurbach passed away peacefully at the age of 65 years. Edward was born in the district of Arborfield on November 25, 1948. He attended school in that district, and graduated from high school at the young age of 16 years. His career with the Department of Highways spanned over 36 years, where he achieved the position of Project Supervisor before enjoying retirement.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Linda Svendsen (nee Holmes); his sister, Gladyce Findlay of Oklahoma City, USA; his brother, Marvin (Liz) Gurbach of Tisdale, SK; his two nephews Darryl and Robert, and niece Trina. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Katherine (nee Leib) Gurbach. Also left to mourn are Ed's mother in-law, Dorothy Holmes of Shellbrook, Sk, and all other members of Linda's family who loved him dearly.
In his early years Ed had the opportunity to travel with friends to many parts of the world, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, China, India, France, Spain and Holland to name a few. Upon his retirement, he and Linda spent much loved time in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Las Vegas and Cuba. Retirement also afforded Ed the time to participate in curling, a sport he enjoyed tremendously until ill health forced him to quit. He was one of Saskatchewan's most dedicated Saskatchewan Roughrider fans. Another passion that Ed enjoyed was deep sea fishing and during their travels together, he and Linda took many fishing tours. His most recent crowning glory was landing a 8 1/2 foot sailfish in Manzanillo in 2012. Time spent with Linda was very important to him, and together they spent countless hours ATVing in the forests surrounding their home. Many happy times were also spent at the lake, or simply relaxing on their deck watching the wildlife and the birds.
In accordance with Ed's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at the Shellbrook Cemetery. Pastor Dave Whalley will officiate, and the eulogy will be done by lifelong friend, Albert Manseau.
