EDNA SVENKESON (nee Pilling) 1930-2013
Died December 12, 2013, peacefully at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert, SK. Edna is survived by her son Gary & Diane and family of Kinistino, SK; son Dale & Sandra and family of Saskatoon, SK; daughter Jean & Willi Kiegerl of Merritt, B.C.; daughter Shirley & Don Campbell of Argyle, MB.
Edna was predeceased by her husband Roy, her parents Albert and Clara Pilling; sisters Clara Pilling, Ida Mowery, Dorothy Jensen and Gladys Smith; brothers Albert, John, Stanley, Ron, Henry, Tom, Art, Ernie, Jeff, George and Frank.
Edna was raised in the Glen Mary community north of Kinistino. Growing up in a large family, Edna often recalled that she always had kids to play with, and there were always older brothers to bring home presents! Edna married Roy in 1950. They raised their family and spent many happy years farming, curling, dancing and travelling. After they retired to Prince Albert, Edna enjoyed going to concerts and other events with her sister Clara.
Edna’s family meant everything to her; she never tired of helping her kids with their many projects. Edna was curious about “how things work” and, if some household appliance or machine didn’t work, she could always be seen taking it apart and sometimes making repairs! She had an expression “it’s a good thing that….”, putting a positive spin on just about everything life brought along. She often said “Laugh when you can kiddo, there’s always time to cry later!”
The family would like to thank the Weldon Country Villa, with special thanks to Paulette Clayton, for their kindness and care for the 31/2 years that Mom lived in Weldon. Thank you also to all the staff past and present of Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert, who were so wonderful to Mom for the 9 years she lived there. Edna particularly enjoyed seeing the children from the Home’s on site nursery and day care.
Family and friends will gather for a burial at the Kinistino Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions in memory of Edna may be directed to the Weldon Country Villa (Box 202 Weldon, SK S0J 3A0) and /or to Mont St. Joseph Foundation (888-28th Street East Prince Albert, SK S7K 8C2)
