1935 – 2013
Edgar William Eckdahl, age 77, beloved husband of Florence Eckdahl passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was born on December 24, 1935 at the Smeaton Hospital. After high school Edgar went to Teacher’s College in Saskatoon and taught school for a short time. He then farmed near Smeaton until the Community Pasture bought him out and he went to Hudson Bay and farmed there for a few years. In 1969, he decided to take up the electrical trade and became a journeyman electrician in 1973. He worked for various contractors over the years in Saskatchewan and in 1986 at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario for six months. After retiring at 65, he later taught at SIAST on a casual basis in the electrical program before his health prevented him from continuing. On November 8, 1969, he married Florence Goetzie of Snowden, SK. Together they had five children and settled in the rural Prince Albert area. Family was important to him and he was proud of all his children and their accomplishments and he was proud of his three young grandchildren. As a family, they went on various trips across Canada and parts of the United States. In later years, Edgar and Florence went to Australia and New Zealand in 2002 and China in 2010. Edgar enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening and annual blueberry picking trips with good friends. He had a love of reading and was a great storyteller. He will also be remembered for his sense of humour, which he kept until the very end. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Florence ( Goetzie) Eckdahl; his children Connie Storozuk (Paul Harrison), Joel Eckdahl, Roderick Eckdahl (Lan Yao), Rebecca Eckdahl (Leroy Allenby); his grandchildren Eric Jensen, Elora Eckdahl and Danica Allenby; his sisters Eleanor Bodnaruk, Amy Eckdahl and Thelma (Dave) Long; his sisters-in-law Linda (Jim) Robertson, Betty Goetzie ( Tom Jenkins) and Carol (Jim) Foss; his mother-in-law Jennie Goetzie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son Walter Edward Eckdahl; his parents Ida and J. Walter Eckdahl; his brother Kenneth Eckdahl; his brothers-in-law Mitchell Kuznair and Mike Bodnaruk and his father-in-law Herbert Goetzie. Edgar will be cremated and as per his request no funeral or memorial service will be held. Interment of his ashes will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery near Snowden, SK at a later date.
