Position Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Assistant is responsible for all aspects of children’s learning, hygiene, health, well-being, and safety while attending the STC’s Urban Early Learning Centre (ELC). Under the supervision of the ELC Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator Assistant is responsible for the planning and implementation of play-based programming that supports children’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual development.
Responsibilities:
- Provides the development and delivery of age-appropriate programs.
- Provides child guidance by reinforcing positive behavior and using coaching techniques with the children.
- Provide a safe and happy environment.
- Record necessary information pertinent to each child.
- Observe children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress.
- Interact with infants and children to encourage their involvement in activities.
- Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
- Uses teachable moments to support children’s learning and provides positive support for children’s development.
- Provide diapering care and overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time.
- Oversee all infant feedings and mealtime/snack time activities, and provide related record keeping.
- Maintain good communication with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets, notes and/or verbally.
- Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program.
- Be sensitive to individual children’s differences and needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
- Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
- Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety requirements.
- Understands and models positive health and hygiene practices for self and others.
- Understands and follows documentation procedures for all reporting requirements.
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as and when required basis.

- Standard childcare environment
Physical Demands:
- Freedom of movement; physically fit individuals who are able to get down on the floor to play and able to lift up to 40lbs.
Education and Experience:
- Ministry of Education Certification as an ECE I (Orientation), ECE II (Certificate) or ECE III (Diploma)
- Minimum 2 years experience working with autism and/or special needs
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certificates
