Earl Monkman

Monkman, Victor Earl Monkman, age 65, of Swift Current, SK., passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Cypress Regional Hospital. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 from Trailview Alliance Church with Reverend Jonathon Hoskin officiating. The organist was Janet Neubauer. Life tribute was given by Billy Monkman and Adam Monkman. A Power point presentation was provided by Kim Furey. The honorary pallbearers were Shane Cherney, Stuart Krause, Bill Parenteau, Wayne Parenteau, Robert Hattum and Billy Monkman. The interment service will take place at Deer Park Cemetery, Prince Albert, SK. at a later date. Earl was born on January 26, 1946, on the family farm near Prince Albert. He attended school in St Louis and took high school in Trail, B.C. He married Rose Krause on March 21, 1973 in Prince Albert. Earl worked as an ironworker for about five years and then took up the trade as sandblaster and spray painter until 1984. When Earl and Rose moved to Swift Current, he started his own painting business called Earl's Painting. Then in 2004, he started the Swift Current Friendship Centre along with Carol Low. They worked hard and made it what it is today. He was very proud of the Friendship Centre and all the programs they had there, especially the boxing club. Earl was a member of the Broncos, Legionnaires, Swift Current Indians, Swift Current Friendship Centre Boxing Club, Swift Current Ag and Ex Board, Boxing Canada Corp. and President of Local #35 Métis Association. Earl also enjoyed hockey, boxing, baseball and music. He played guitar and sang old country songs. He had a special place in his heart for the love of animals. Most of all he was extremely proud of his two boys. He always bragged about them to everyone. Earl is survived by his wife Rose (Krause) Monkman; son Richard (Kim) and Kim's children Meisie and Wiley; son Jerry all of Swift Current; brothers Billy (Glenda) and their sons, Adam (Jarelyn) and Jordon of Calgary; his sister Joyce of Hoey, SK. and her children; son Shane Cherney and his son Ethan; daughter Jody (Leandre); daughter Pamela and her sons Josh and Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents Melvin and Georgina Monkman; sister Melva Tail of Macdowall, Sk.; uncles Donald, Sidney and James (Ruby) Monkman. Earl's love for life was great and he showed this with his smile, laughter and open personality. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and organizations he worked with.
