Duncan Keir Taylor
September 9, 1922 – October 20, 2011
Duncan Keir Taylor passed away in Melfort Union Hospital with family and friends at his side on October 20, 2011. He was born on the family farm near Tisdale on September 9, 1922 and was the oldest of six children. In keeping with the times, Duncan attended school until 1937 achieving grade 8 at the top of his class. Duncan worked on the family farm until 1942 when he enlisted in the armed forces serving in Italy and returning home at the end of the war. Duncan courted and married Josephine Kindrat July 15, 1947 making their family home near Ridgedale. They had three children Larry (Jean), Myles (Barb) and Colleen. Between these three there are eight grandchildren (Chris and Jennie; Trevor, Meghan and Devon; Richard, Tyrel. and Derek). Duncan actively and passionately participated on many committees and in numerous community organizations. Duncan was always doing, his positive and optimistic outlook was infectious and always appreciated by everyone he met. Some things Duncan loved included his family – remember the birthday songs once a year!, Scottish music – can you hear him ”you take the high road…”, a good meal including ice cream, his friends – the impromptu calls or visits, and he loved to laugh. He felt life should always have a purpose and this was evident in his lifelong ability, determination, and commitment to the work world such as farming, management of several private businesses (motel, general store, yardage centre, custom draperies), life insurance, and municipal hail. The same could be said for the enthusiasm he had in spending hundreds of tireless hours doing volunteer work. All the boards and committees (town, municipal, and provincial; political and non-political) he not only supported, but participated in are far too many to name.
He was predeceased by his favorite dancing partner, Josie; also his baby brother William and his sister Jean. Besides his children and grandchildren he is survived by sisters, Polly & Kathy, brother Jimmy (Darlene), sisters-in-law Yustine, Anne, Mary, & Rosie, brother-in-law Dick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Thank you Dad, Grandpa and dear friend. And as Duncan would say “That’s a FACT.”
