It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Hess announce his passing at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.
Doug was born in Saskatoon to Gordon and Fay Hess. He was raised in Saskatoon, attending Victoria School and Nutana Collegiate. Doug worked at Safeway during his high school years and continued his employment there after graduation. During this time, he met his future wife, Liz, and made many great lifelong friendships.
In 1974, Doug began his career with Old Dutch Foods as a Sales Distributor, where he enjoyed many successful years until his retirement in 2001. Upon retiring, Doug and Liz moved to Emma Lake, where they embraced lake life and built countless cherished memories together.
In retirement, Doug kept busy driving school bus, traveling, gardening, being a sports fan – especially cheering for his beloved Blue Jays, and following his grandchildren’s sports and activities.
Doug will be remembered as a gracious host, a great storyteller, and someone who always offered a listening ear and words of wisdom. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Liz; daughter, Leah Liedtke of Emma Lake; son, Bryan Hess (Cara) of Saskatoon; and his grandchildren, Anna and Owen Liedtke, and Quinn, Bennett, and Carter Hess. He is also survived by his brother, Don Hess (Diane) and his sisters, Pat Pearson (Dale) and Cathy Green. Doug leaves behind in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation in Doug’s memory, please consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Lakeland and District Fire Department and First Responders.
