Douglas Franklin Cooper
1931 – 2019
Doug passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Herb Basset Home in Prince Albert, SK.
He was born August 27, 1931 in Lenore, MB to Frank and Mildred Cooper, the second oldest of thirteen children. Douglas attended the one room school in Bede and Broomhill, MB. He later attended Bethel Bible College in Saskatoon. There he met his wife Helen Wolfe, and together they welcomed six children. The family moved throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan, notably his work at the Calgary General Hospital and then his pastoral ministries in Start City, La Ronge and Birch Hills.
In his retirement years he maintained the Birch Hills Curling and Skating Rink and drove school bus. As the years progressed Doug made Weldon Country Villa home until failing health brought him to live in the Herb Bassett Home. Dad loved his family, and his family will always remember him as a good provider with a diligent work ethic.
Doug is survived by his spouse, Helen; his daughter Geri (Allan) Shaw, and their children Kendra (Landon) Chess and their daughter, Arabella, and Kelli Shaw; his daughter Shirley (Gerry) Dueker, and their children Leland Dueker (Morgan), Ali Dueker, and Brantford Dueker; his son, Elmer (Lila) Cooper, and their daughter Eleesha (Grant) Jensen, and their children Jax and Brinley, and son Albert Cooper; his son Dayna (Carol) Cooper, and their son Gavin (Tami) Cooper, and their children Bryce, Wyatt and Colter, their daughter Caitlin (Chad) Rathgeber, and their children Kenzi and Lexi, and their daughter Kim (Ian) Salisbury and their children Kade and Lyla; his daughter Dorla (Hugh) Watt, and their children Janelle Watt (Mason Cartier) and Lindsay Watt; and his son Dave (Sheila) Cooper, and their children Tyler Cooper, Abby Cooper and Emily Cooper; numerous brothers and sisters, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Herb Bassett Home for the excellent care and compassion they showed Doug during his stay.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the Star City Pentecostal Tabernacle with Pastor Dave Meier officiating. A Private Family interment will take place at the Star City Cemetery.
