Douglas Charles Bruce passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, at the age of 91. Born January 23, 1935 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Ted and Olive Bruce. Doug lived a long, full life that took him from the prairies of Saskatchewan to the heart of Alberta, making many friends and golfing many courses along the way.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Louise; his daughter Cindy (Tim) Oleksyn: Megan (Mitch), Andrea (Pierce), and his son Scott Bruce: Tara (Jim), Vance and Logan, and Melissa (Steve) as well as his brother Gerald (Jackie) Bruce and sister Marlene Wildey. He is further survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members who will carry his memory.
Doug spent his earlier years living and working in Saskatchewan while raising his children before relocating to Alberta in the early 1970s. He built a career with ICG Propane, eventually serving as Branch Manager in High Level until his retirement in 1994. It was there that he met Louise, and the two of them settled together in Didsbury in 1997.
Those who knew Doug knew his love for the outdoors including road trips, wide open spaces, and anywhere a good golf course could be found. He was an avid golfer who won many tournaments over the years and kept playing right up until his illness made him set down his clubs in 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held with family in Didsbury on Saturday, April 11th at 11:00 am, with Heartland Funeral Services presiding. Doug will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
