Dorothy Joyce (Dot) Koenig
(November 15, 1930 – August 22, 2011)
Dorothy Joyce Harding was born on November 15, 1930 in Melfort to Ben & Mary Harding, a little sister for Peg & Sue followed by her brother, Gordon, 5 years later.
Dot grew up in Fenton and remembered swimming in the river there. When Sue moved to Prince Albert to attend high school, Dot went too, even though she was only 15. They both finished their schooling there, after which they moved back to Melfort, where Dot did bookkeeping for Claggetts.
She met Weab after he returned from the army in B.C. The family joke was that Weab broke his leg playing baseball, so Dot finally caught him. They were married on July 23rd, 1949 in Melfort, where they lived until 1951 when they moved to the farm. Don was born while they lived in Melfort, and Dennis and Debbie came along after they were at the farm.
In October 1979 they moved to Beatty where Dot undertook the task of landscaping a whole new yard. She was always proud of her garden and lawn, where the weeds dared not grow. In February 2004 Dot & Weab moved to Consolation Place, where she resided until her passing. Her family increased as the kids got married and then had children of their own. She welcomed everyone with the same enthusiasm and love – and she really didn't play favourites (in spite of what her sons may say!).
Dot is survived by children Don (Donna), Dennis (Geri) & Debbie; by her grandchildren Denette (Trevor), Devin (Kaelee), (great-grandson, Wilfred), Sean (Shannon), (great-grandsons Noah & Griffin), Bryan (Lisa), Brandon (Noshin); Jacq (Eric). Dot was predeceased by the love of her life, Weab; her son-in-law, Mark; her sisters, Peg & Sue and her brother, Benny.
A celebration of Dot's life was held on Saturday, Sept. 3 at All Saints' Anglican Church with Reverend Patricia Langlois officiating. A private internment followed. Donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
