Dorothy Merle Brown passed away at the age of 84 years while in the Victoria Hospital, in Prince Albert, SK, on May 20, 2015, surrounded by family members. Merle was born and raised on a farm near Yorkton, SK, with her parents Jane and Andy. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse near Tonkin, SK, and later moved to Yorkton to attend high school. She met and married Gordon Brown while living in Yorkton and together they had three children, Lynn, Keith and Dennis. From Yorkton they moved to Tisdale for a year and then settled in P.A. Shortly after moving to P.A., Gordon passed away suddenly so Merle went to work to raise her three children. Life became very different but she was strong-willed and determined, sometimes working two or three jobs at a time. Merle worked for the Dairy Pool Producers Co-operative for 34 years from 1960 to 1994. She became very independent and remained so until her passing. Merle has been described as fun, loving, caring, having a great sense of humour, private, strong, a lady, socialite and even stubborn. She enjoyed practical jokes and gave a helping hand to friends and family. She had fun arm and leg wrestling. She also loved the outdoors, horses and dogs. Merle is survived by her sister Ethyl in Ontario; her children, Lynn (Duane), Keith (Wendy), and Dennis (Shelly); grandchildren, Patrick, Chris, Aaron (Chelsea), Alana (Darryl), Angela (Darcy), Gordon (Ashley), Kimberly (Dennis), Christine, Chad (Brandy), Christina (Troy), and Michael (Sam); great grandchildren, Annabelle, Eden, Ruby, Beth, Simon, Ava, Brooklyn, Layla, Ty, Jake, and Natalie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Merle was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; parents, Jane and Andy Pearce; brothers Milton and Lyle Pearce; great grandchildren, Ella Rose and Lowen Brown; and dear friend Floyd Digby. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Sherry Ouellette. In lieu of other tributes memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T4.
