Our beloved mother, Doris Smallboy passed away with her family at her side on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at the age of 67. Doris was born on August 7th, 1956, in Big River, SK. to Dora Smallboy and Joe Rediron of Big River First Nation. Doris’s early years were spent in Stony Lake (Delaronde Lake, SK), of which she had vivid recollections. She would often comment about how lovely her life had been there and how she would want to return there in the future. Doris, a survivor of the Residential School and a single mother, dedicated her life to helping her children and her grandchildren have better lives. Doris gave each of her four sons and her grandkids unique nicknames. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, taking them on outings to the mall, and watching horror movies in her home. She was passionate about finding treasures at thrift stores. She cherished and collected snow globes, glass sculptures, and angel figurines. She is also known to keep items that have a special meaning to her, her children`s accomplishments and awards, gifts from loved ones, and photographs of special memories. kokum Doris often referenced her mother’s traditional sayings when things were not right, and always wanted love and unity among all.
Wake Services for Doris will commence on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. from the Nordale Hall. The Funeral Service for Doris will take place on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. from St. Michaels Parish in Prince Albert, SK with Father Maurice Fiolleau officiating. Doris will be laid to rest in the South Hill Cemetery in Prince Albert, SK.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her children: Gabriel (Robin) Smallboy, Jonathon Smallboy, Kris (Kerry) Smallboy, Matthew Smallboy, Jody Smallboy; her siblings: Morris (Katherine) Smallboy, Linda Smallboy, Rosemarie Smallboy, Leona Smallboy & Lorna Smallboy; her aunts: Josephine Lagnill, Madeline LaChance; and her best friend: MaryAnne Constant.
Doris is predeceased by her daughter-in-law: Olivia Bear; her father: Joe Rediron; her mother: Dora Smallboy; brothers: Norman, Larry, Allan, Leonard, Charles, and infant Richard; her sister: Bertha; her paternal grandparents: Charlie and Virginia Rediron; her paternal great grandma: Josette Apitchek; and maternal grandparents: Joseph Smallboy, Angela Merasty.
