Doris Jean ISKRA (nee Basaraba) February 9, 1951 – December 26, 2010. On December 26, 2010 the life of a very special wife, mother, sister, Gran/Bubba, aunty and friend came to a sudden end at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon with her family by her side at the age of 59. Mom was born in Prince Albert to Emil and Hilda (Pat) Basaraba on February 9, 1951. She was the third child of a family of five. Growing up she lived in various places as her father was in the army. When he retired they settled in Prince Albert. It was in Prince Albert that she met the love of her life, Walter Iskra. In November of this year they celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. Mom was dedicated to raising her two girls. She loved to volunteer whenever she was needed at school functions and any other activities the girls were involved in that needed a helping hand. She also loved being in her vegetable and flower gardens, baking, crocheting and doing her many crafts. Her passion was collecting owls, sometimes being referred to as the owl lady. Her family was very important to her and her two grandsons were her pride and joy. She was loved and respected by all of those that had the pleasure to know her. Doris is survived by her husband Walter; her daughter Patty (Mike) Chartier and their son Zachary, her daughter Roseann Iskra and her son Adler; her brothers Mike (Lavina), Alan (Earla), and Neal (Susan); her sister Debbie (Don) Woods; her brother-in-laws John and Raymond (Elaine); her god son Owen Woods; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her two special friends Dorothy Cholewa and Judy Friesen. She was predeceased by her parents Emil and Hilda Basaraba; her in-laws Blazej and Zofia Iskra; her niece Rhonda Basaraba; and her sister-in-law Maxine Iskra. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Also special thanks to Uncle Al and Aunty Earla, Danny and Alana for being with us during the last hours with Mom. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Matthew Nguyen officiating.
