Doris Dyck
1937 ~ 2022
Doris Katherina Dyck, beloved wife of William Dyck of Prince Albert, passed away at the Victoria Hospital on February 28, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
Doris was born in Mayfair, SK, on December 24, 1937. Her family moved to Steinbach, MB when she was a young girl. She was the oldest of 3 sisters. After completing grade 8, she attended Steinbach Bible Institute. She started her working career in a sewing factory, then moved on to a career as a nurse’s aide, she worked in a hospital in Brandon, Municipal hospitals in Winnipeg, Steinbach Hospital, and then in the Children’s Hospital for many years. She met her husband Bill in Young Peoples at the Bergthaler Church while living in Winnipeg, and they were married in 1962. They made their home in Winnipeg and grew their family by adopting Brenda in 1969, and then Angela in 1972.
Mom loved music and growing up we spent many road trips singing songs, and Mom’s voice could always be heard so sweetly in perfect harmony. Mom also loved to sing and reminisce with her two sisters, and although distance made gathering challenging, they made time for each other through phone calls and retreats to spend quality time together.
Mom also loved to serve others and found joy in so many ways by doing just that. Mom opened her home to VBS clubs, small groups, many teenagers, families, and friends and enjoyed having company. She loved children and gave freely of her time to serve in Awana, Sunday School, senior’s homes and served in prison ministry for years.
One of Mom’s greatest joys was her grandchildren. She would spend countless hours reading stories, playing games, pretending, coloring, doing crafts and baking with them. Mom touched so many lives and impacted others with her faith and love. She will always be fondly remembered.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, William Dyck; her daughters, Brenda (Darryl) & their children, Alicia (Taran) and Asher, Melanie (Chaz) and Sophia, Jeremy (Erika); and Angela (Tim) & their children, Benjamin, Cameron, Justin and Abagayle.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Lorna Leiding and Alice Braun; along with numerous friends and relatives.
Special thanks to the Dialysis Unit for their care and compassion for the past 10 years, and to the health care workers at the Victoria Hospital for the care during her last few days here.
