DORIS BERNICE COOK1920 – 2010. It is with heavy hearts the family of Doris announces her passing at the Wakaw Hospital on Sunday November 28, 2010, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. A shining light and angel to her family, she possessed an incredible inner strength and a wonderful, and memorable, sense of humour. For over the 90 years she blessed us with her presence and she left her family and friends with many happy memories to cherish and remember her by. We will miss her dearly. Doris was born in the Donnybrook District on May 8, 1920 to Arthur and Mary Jane Tait growing up on the farm and receiving her education at the Donnybrook School. She married Richard Cook in 1939 and together they made Prince Albert their home, moving there in 1942. Prince Albert was to be her home for the next 67 years where she and Richie raised their three children. Their home was always open and was the place where all of her family members were welcomed with open arms during happy and difficult times. Doris' career began as a nurse's aid at the Victoria Union Hospital, later achieving her Certified Nursing Assistant designation. She later completed her long career in the admitting department, retiring in the summer of 1985. After retirement she continued to live with her son Dick in the home she purchased on 20th Street East until the fall of 2009. At that time she sold her house and moved to Wakaw and resided there until the time of her passing. Doris loved to visit with family and friends and enjoyed knitting and other needlework that was displayed on the walls of her home. She was a crossword enthusiast and never a day went by without completing the daily cross word puzzle in the Herald. A caring and loving soul her life was devoted to the care of her son Dick and they shared many happy years together. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. God Bless You Grandma. Doris leaves to mourn her passing 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren daughter Fay Michayluk of Wakaw SK and her children Rob Michayluk and Kathy (Kevin) Michalko and their children Marlee and Mayson; daughter Elsie Stern of Medicine Hat AB and her children Perry Stern and Christy (Garnet) Brusky and their children Abbey and Eric; sisters Gladys Johnston, Rita (Ron) Davies, and Iolene Halcro; brother Alvin Tait; sisters-in-law Shirley Tait, Dorothy Tait, Irene Tait, Doris Bird and Teresa Cook; brothers-in-law Raymond Cook and Mel Tweeten; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
