Our family is heartbroken to share that our Mom, Doreen Rosemary Kapacila (née Morash), passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at Pineview Terrace, Prince Albert, SK. She was surrounded by the love of her family during her final days. While our hearts are broken, they are also filled with countless wonderful memories of an incredible wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, sister, and friend.

Mom was born on December 6, 1935, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Maynard and Velma Morash. She was the second of four children and, to her brother and sisters, was affectionately known as “Toady.” Growing up on the family farm, she learned the value of hard work at an early age. There wasn’t much she wouldn’t do. She could work right alongside anyone on the farm and wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. She was a bit of a tomboy, but she was also a beautiful young woman with a smile that people remembered.

While working at the CIBC in Prince Albert, that smile caught the eye of the love of her life, Eugene “Gene” Kapacila. They were married on September 22, 1956, at North Side United Church. That day marked the beginning of a marriage that lasted 66 wonderful years, until Dad’s passing on October 22, 2022.

Life didn’t slow down after they were married. Together they made their home on the family farm near Spruce Home, where Mom helped run the farm while raising what eventually became a family of five children, four girls and one boy, as Dad travelled the roads as a salesman. She never complained. She simply saw what needed to be done, rolled up her sleeves, and got it done. That’s just who she was.

Later they moved to Prince Albert and started building a different kind of life together. Dad always had the dreams, and Mom never hesitated to share them with him. Whatever the adventure was, she was right beside him. Together they built not one, but two successful family businesses, Nor-Lite Grocery and Gene’s Cycle & Sports. Mom was the strength behind it all. She worked tirelessly, supported Dad every step of the way, and still somehow made sure her family always came first. Looking back now, we realize just how much she carried on her shoulders. At the time, she would have simply called it being a wife and a Mom.

No matter how busy life became, her children never questioned how much they were loved. Mom sacrificed more than we’ll probably ever know to make sure we had what we needed. She taught us about hard work, loyalty, kindness, and what it meant to always be there for your family.

Mom was a firecracker. She was smart, quick-witted, and loved to talk. She could visit with anyone, and if you asked her opinion, you were probably going to get it. She loved being around people, sharing stories, laughing, and enjoying life’s simple moments. Those conversations, those laughs, and even those little bits of advice that sometimes came whether you asked for them or not, are the things we’ll miss the most.

In her later years, Mom made her home at Herb Bassett Home before moving to Pineview Terrace, where she spent the final chapter of her life.

One of the things that brings us the most comfort is knowing Mom is with Dad again. After 66 years of married life together, it’s hard to imagine one without the other. We can only imagine the smile on her face when she saw Dad again, along with their daughter Brenda and a special grandson, Scott, waiting to welcome her home.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Barb Levesque (Marlon), Val Bosch (Ted), Jan Kapacila, and David Kapacila (Yazmin).

She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Chad Levesque, Jeremy Bosch, Jeffrey Bosch, Cale Bosch, Kayla Kapacila, Hailey Kapacila, Deena Kapacila, Chloe Laczko, Jesse Kapacila, Josh Kapacila, James Kapacila, Carlos Diaz, Victor Diaz, Karoline Diaz, and Jesus Diaz; by their spouses and partners; by her 13 great-grandchildren; by her sisters, Leone Forrest and Dianna Miazga; her brother, Ken Morash (Charlene); and by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Kapacila; her daughter, Brenda Tubman; her grandson, Scott Read; her parents, Maynard and Velma Morash; her parents-in-law, Dymetro and Katherine Kapacila; her sisters-in-law, Sandra Bodnarchuk and Irene Kindrachuk; and her brothers-in-law, Lorne Forrest, Elmer Miazga, Morris Bodnarchuk, and William Kindrachuk.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Pine View Terrace. There are a few of you who became very special to Mom and to our family. Your kindness, compassion, friendship, and genuine care meant more than words can say. You didn’t just care for Mom—you became part of her life and part of our family. Thank you for treating her with such dignity, respect, and love.

Mom leaves behind a family who will miss her every day, but we are thankful for the example she set, the values she instilled in us, and the memories she gave us. She worked hard, loved deeply, stood beside Dad through every adventure, and gave everything she had to her family.

We couldn’t have asked for a better Mom.

You spent your whole life making sure we were okay. Now it’s our turn to let you rest. Give Dad a hug from all of us. We love you, Mom, and we’ll carry you with us every day.

As per Doreen’s wishes, no public services will be held. A private internment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, Prince Albert, SK, at a later date.
