Donna Gail Buchanan
December 27, 1939 ~ October 12, 2021
Donna Gail Buchanan of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the age of 81, surrounded by her loving family, after a short battle with cancer. We are comforted to know that she was welcomed into heaven embraced with open arms by her loving Savior Jesus Christ.
Donna was born December 27, 1939 in Weirdale, Saskatchewan to parents Ethel and Bud Buchanan. She spent her childhood in Weirdale and much of her adult life in Prince Albert.
Known to many as “Gramma D”, Donna devoted her life to her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Gramma D was an avid baker, loving us with her cupcakes, cookies and pies. You never left her house without an armful of treats, dish cloths, jams, pickles, canned goods and a heart full of love. She was her own ‘Skip the Dishes’, whether you ordered from her or not. She hand delivered her goodies to many – the Doctor’s office, the mailman, the pool lifeguards, her neighbours, Glenda’s classroom, the TD Bank and many more. We are sure that if she could have, she would have delivered a tray to the hospital staff that cared for her.
Even though it sometimes drove us crazy, Mom was generous with her organizational skill of ‘telling us what to do’. “Do it now. Please and thank you, honey.”
Donna loved her deck and her flowers. Every season was celebrated for all to admire and envy.
Donna is survived by her four children: Wendy (Richard) Buckley, Shannon (Wayne) Basaraba, Brent (Koree) Moline, Glenda Moline (Trevor Heerschop); fifteen grandchildren: Stephanie, Samantha, Malika, Victoria and Theo Buckley, Justin (Kristal), Shayne (Kelly) and Brandon (Stacie), Nick (Sydney Lecorre) Basaraba, Jordhan (Jim) Lewis and Nikolas and Taylor Moline (Kyle Tenney), Izaac Chartrand, Todd and Taura Heerschop; eight ++ great grandchildren: Jalynn, Teyva, Ryker, Otis, Burke, Ivy, Holden, Aldo; siblings Duane & Judy Buchanan (Surrey, BC) and Sharon & Wayne Phillip (Prince Albert); many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donna was predeceased by her parents Bud & Ethel Buchanan; stepmother Olga Buchanan; and brother Alan Buchanan.
A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Living Hope Bible Church, 2650 6th Avenue East, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan (by invite). We know that Donna has touched many hearts and lives during her 81 years and we appreciate that you would like to join us in celebrating her life; however, out of respect for COVID concerns, we are requesting that only immediate invited family attend the in-person event. On behalf of the family we would like to thank so many… the wonderful medical team that cared for our mother and supported us during her final days; Dr. Dale Ardell and his wonderful staff; Dr. Painter and Dr. Van De Beer for their in-hospital care and expertise; the amazing nurses on the 5th floor – Debbie, Jamie, Brennen, Harley, Clarissa and many others that took such great care of our beloved family member; to Mom’s longtime friend, Pastor Gerry Wortman for helping us to walk our Mother home; to the staff of Gray’s Funeral Chapel for their comforting care during this difficult time; and finally to all our family and friends for your prayers, love, and support.
In the words of our loving Mom and Gramma D…
“Here I am still telling you what to do – no, it is called being a mother, ha, ha. Have a special day and know that I am with you, just touch your heart and that is where I am. Stick together, family is so important. I love you all very much.”
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
