Dominique Provencher
1925 – 2020
Dominique was born April 19, 1925, in Albertville, SK. He was the 5th oldest in a family of 9. Dad went to school in Albertville to grade 8 and then was encouraged to quit to work full time on the farm. In dad’s early years he worked in Ontario building a dam and did some logging in B.C., and Saskatchewan but always came back to farming.
In 1948 dad was introduced to the new schoolteacher, Denise Dupuis by one of his sisters and they were married in 1950. In 1951 Dad and Mom purchased the farm in Foxdale in time to put in their first crop. In 1952 Raymond was born in Prince Albert and dad and mom moved permanently to Foxdale. We believe that they were blessed with another 4 children making a total of 5 kids to raise.
Dad was a mixed farmer raising beef, pork and grain. In the fall there was fresh wild meat and summer and winter fresh fish. Family was dad’s world and he showed us this by taking us camping, fishing, regular trips to the lake, coaching hockey and ball and being a 4-H leader.
For us, his children we did not realize we had won the dad lottery until we were teens and older. Dad was steadfast in his faith, believed in quietly donating to his church and community. Dad was a founding member of the Shellbrook Credit Union, lifetime member of the Fish and Game League, Director and Delegate for the Shellbrook Co-op, Trustee for the School Board and Church Board.
Dad loved ice cream, especially Tiger Tiger, ham especially if it was maple, farming especially harvest, coffee with cream and sugar. Dad read everything he could get his hands on. He loved to smile, tease, dip his spoon in his coffee, then sugar then deposit in the nearest baby’s mouth. Dad loved culture, scenery and people and nurtured this love with our Mom by travelling through all of Canada, most of Europe, North and South America, Morocco and parts of Asia.
Dominique leaves to cherish his memory his children Raymond (Murielle) Provencher of Sherwood Park, AB; Yvette Jacobs of Shellbrook, SK; Lorraine (Craig) Young of Shellbrook, SK; Gilbert (Janice) Provencher of Shellbrook, SK; Julie (Brian) Nordquist of Lloydminster, AB; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; Raymond (Carrie) Provencher and their children Ayla and Samuel; Michelle (Travis) Titley and their children Lauren and Emily; Rachael (Doug) Bishop and their daughter Tessa; Drew Young (Sophia Brown); Carlie (James) Olsen and their children Emery and Averee; Shane (Tiffany) McAleese and their children Jase, Shaelyn, Bryson and Brynne; Kyle (Jaimie) McAleese and their daughter Casey; Adam Nordquist; Hannah Nordquist (Daniel Harvey); as well as exceptional neighbours, friends and in-laws Harold and Dorothy Gray; special friends Liezyl and Carlo Banas; and an enormous extended family of inlaws and nieces and nephews.
