Doris “Dolly” Grewcock (nee Becker)
(May 24, 1931 – December 24, 2011)
It is with deep love and great sadness that we announce the passing of Dolly Grewcock.
Dolly is survived by her husband of 53 years Art; her daughter Reyleen; her son-in-law Neal; and her cherished and beloved granddaughter Sydney. Also surviving Dolly is her brother Bill (Mabel) and family; her sister Ileen (Grant) and family; as well as so very many loved family members and dear close friends. Dolly was predeceased by her parents Herman and Sophie Becker.
Mom was born in Shaunovan, SK on May 24, 1931. She came to Prince Albert in 1956 to work and we think have some adventure! After marrying Dad in 1958, they settled in on the acreage on 40th Street East and that is where she made her home. The little house soon became a place where family and friends were always welcomed with a smile and a drink. There were many Grey Cup parties with Mom’s famous borscht and buns.
Mom was a long-term fixture at Minto Bowl, where she worked and had fun for many years. She made lifelong friendships and memories with all her involvement with coaching and teaching YBC. (How many of you out there learned to bowl with her instructions?) Mom was a “firecracker” and her energy and enthusiasm was contagious. She was always ready for something – either bowling, watching those “Brown Dusters” play softball, or hosting yet another gathering at the house.
Mom’s health was fading the last couple of years and she wasn’t physically able to do all the things she wanted any more. But she reveled in Sydney’s accomplishments and would always make sure she knew what was going on in Sydney’s life so she could brag about it to friends and family alike. Her granddaughter Sydney truly was the joy and light of her life. We are so thankful that we were all together with Mom at the end of her well-lived life.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Margaret Ferchuk officiating. We ask you to bring along good stories and memories to share about Mom, as we want to CELEBRATE her life. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 – 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
