Dixie Melissa Saam
May 25, 1977 ~ April 18, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Dixie Melissa Saam on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 in Etzikom, Alberta.
Dixie was born May 25, 1977, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to her parents Edward Richard Saam and Diana Helen McKay. She was the second of six siblings, one older brother Darren and 4 younger sisters Dulcie, Desiree, Dalisha and Danita. Dixie attended elementary school at Wild Rose School in Briarlea, Saskatchewan and then Princess Margaret in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, she then attended Wesmore in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Viscount Central in Viscount, Saskatchewan, and Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In the year 2000 she went through a Computer Support Technician course in Meadow Lake, through S.I.I.T. Dixie was incredibly smart when it came to computer technology, she never shied away from any challenges placed in her path. Dixie joined the Cadets in Prince Albert during her teenage years and also played the flute in school. Dixie learned to dance Fancy Shawl and attended powwows all over Saskatchewan when she was in her youth. Recently she decided to take up square dancing and was amazing at that as well. She was great at everything she did.
In 1998, Dixie was blessed with a beautiful, bubbly baby girl who she named Aimee and three years later she was blessed again with a handsome baby boy who she named Andrew. She loved being a mother, she was able to shower them with love, wisdom and the values of kindness and compassion. They were her pride and joy. Dixie became a new grandmother in December 2023 to her beautiful granddaughter Elliana, and on the day of Elliana’s birth, her heart swelled with joy and she embraced her new role as a grandmother with open arms. She would spend her days laughing, playing and spoiling her grandbaby, she loved her children and her granddaughter to the moon and back and would do anything for them.
Dixie loved to travel any chance she had. Her love of travel found her joining up with The Big M Show and West Coast Amusements. She spent a couple years with the carnivals which brought her to many places, she very much enjoyed the freedom and sights she seen along the way. She would travel from Alberta to British Columbia to spend time with her best friend, Naomi Schwartz and her family in British Columbia. She was recently planning to move out to British Columbia to start a new chapter in her life which was already full of so many exciting plans. She loved visiting with her relatives, she would sit and talk and laugh for hours. She was an avid genealogist, and was always busy researching her ‘Saam’ family line. If anyone in the family needed to know anything about the family, Dixie was the one to call and she was always willing to share newly found information in a shared page she had set up for her family.
Dixie spent her days planting and tending to her vegetable garden each spring and then canning and preserving her garden veggies in the fall. She loved to share the harvest with anyone that was in need. She had many plans for her acreage life which included raising pigs and wanting to keep bees. She wanted a fruit orchard, and all kinds of berry bushes to tend. She would have been amazing at all of it.
Dixie was a force of nature, talented in so many ways. She could light up a room with her beautiful smile, her larger than life personality and her amazing sense of humour. Dixie’s generosity and beautiful spirit extended beyond her immediate family, she was always there to lend a helping hand to her family and friends. She was caring towards everyone she met.
Dixie touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her legacy of love, compassion and adventure will live on in the hearts of her children, granddaughter, her family and all those she met and helped along the way. Dixie’s life is a testament to the power of family, friendship and the beauty of sharing knowledge and kindness with others.
She was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin and a friend, you will be forever missed Dixie and in our hearts always, we love you Dixie.
Until we meet again.
