It is with profound sadness that the family of Diana Helene Roy announce her death on Monday, September 8th at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 91. Diana was born on November 6th, 1933 to Lionel and Yvonne Gaudet in Bellevue, SK. The oldest of a family of 11 children, she quickly contributed to the ongoing care and nurturing of her younger siblings. Diana learned the value of hard work and perseverance in the face of challenging economic times. Her love of family and devotion to serve became the guiding principles of her life. In 1951, she married Clement Roy, a local farmer. The young couple made a home halfway between Hoey and Bellevue where they welcomed seven children. In 1963, the growing family moved closer to Hoey to a somewhat larger house and continued to earn a living from farming and raising livestock. In 2008, Diana and Clement moved to Sunset Seniors Lodge in St. Louis where they enjoyed their retirement years. Diana’s final move was to the Bellevue Care Home in June 2025 prior to her becoming ill and requiring hospitalization in August. She remained alert and lucid right up to her final breath. Thanks are extended to the care home staff as they provided excellent care and support for Diana. Diana had many loves and passions. First was her family. Others were gardening and caring for her flowers, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was also an amazing cook delighting everyone with her fulsome meals and tasty desserts. The smell of freshly baked bread and buns often filled the house. She was a woman of faith and saw God’s handiwork in everything around her. Above all, she was always a welcoming, gracious and genuine person. Her death is a painful loss only made bearable through the comfort of memories, laughter, love and faith. Diana was predeceased by her husband Clement Roy (2011), her third eldest son Martin Roy (1974), her grandson Eric Roy (2011), her great grandchild Eva Denis (2019) as well as four brothers (Michel Gaudet, Wilfred Gaudet, Joël Gaudet, Hubert Gaudet) and one sister (Pauline Berthelette). She is survived by her children, Roland, Ben (Gisele), Armand (Carol), Paulette (Herb Hodgson), Lorraine (Marc Huard), and Elaine (Tim Krause), 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, four sisters (Dorothé Gaudet-Cousin, Cecile Pelletier, Marielle Gareau, Madeleine Gaudet) and one brother (Laurier Gaudet).
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025 with her grandson Rev. Fr. Colin Roy as celebrant. Cremation will follow with Interment of the Urn. at a later date.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff at St. Paul’s Hospital for the care they provided for the last month of her life. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kushneryk Funeral Services of Wakaw – (306) 233-4403.
