Corporal Derrick Douglas Smallboy passed away unexpectly on May 1, 2013 in the Holbein area at the age of 34 years. Derrick was born on Mrch 11, 1979 in Big River, SK. to Douglas Bear and Linda Smallboy.

Derrick leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife, Delores Whitefish and his children, Wapan, Tianna, Regena, Mariah, Kisik, Aundreia all of Big River First Nation, his parents, Linda Smallboy and Douglas Bear, his brothers and sisters, Tammy (Rob) McQuarrie and their children, Katrina, Kelsey, Curtis, Kobe and Kaden; Michael (Leanne) Smallboy and their daughter, Rimara, Vicki Smallboy and her daughter, Emma; Lisa, Angela, Jodi, Leanne, Jackson, Monica and Ryan. , one great niece, Keyarra, his in-laws, Peter and Albertine Whitefish and special friend, Lyle Whitefish and numerous other relatives.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Big River First Nation at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kunnath as celebrant.The Honorary Pallbearers will be ; “All those that loved and cared for Derrick.” The Pallbearers will be Lyle Bear , Sheldon Bear, Shannon Bear, Robert Smallboy, Galyn Delorme, Hubert Whitefish, Richard Bear and Shaun Whitefish. The Interment will be held in Whitefish Catholic Cemetery.
