Dennis Robert William Mudrey, late of Saskatoon, SK, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK.
Dennis Mudrey was born on the beautiful summer day of July 20, 1953, in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. Dennis lived his early years with his parents and older sister on a farm in Crystal Springs, Saskatchewan. He thoroughly enjoyed farm life, including the open space, the animals, and helping his mom out in the kitchen. He was also a bit of a genius at math before he was even school age. Unfortunately, Dennis’s health deteriorated, and he was moved to a private care home in Kinistino, Saskatchewan. Dennis also lived at the Valleyview care facility in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and when the facility closed, he moved once again to the Gladstone residential home through Light of the Prairies in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Gladstone was a very special home where Dennis blossomed and was his happiest and most productive until his passing on Feb 21, 2025.
Dennis faced numerous health challenges, though he rarely showed it. He was a resilient, strong, caring, humble, and overall, a great human being. Dennis had a wide range of interests and loved everything. He was incredibly easygoing and could be captivated by anything. Dennis enjoyed attending community events, exploring new places, and meeting new people. He actively participated in the Saskatoon Riverdale community fridge, where he would collect donations for the fridge and pantry, clean up the area, and ensure that everyone had access to essential supplies. In the last year, Dennis had found his love for art by joining art therapy and music therapy, where he enjoyed banging on the drum and playing other musical instruments, and sometimes even dancing. There was almost nothing that Dennis couldn’t or wouldn’t do or at least be willing to try. Although Dennis had many talents, he had a special fondness for helping out in the kitchen, likely conjuring up fond memories of his time on the farm. Dennis cherished his trips to Nipawin to visit family, where he would relax in the hotel’s hot tub, indulge in ice cream at Dairy Queen, and enjoy his hotel stays.
Dennis was predeceased by his father, William Mudrey (1991); his mother, Lena (Lazorko) Mudrey (2012); nephew, Cory Bouchard (2024); and his close friend, Mark Robson. Dennis will be remembered fondly by his sister, Patricia (Mudrey) Bouchard; nephew, Kelsey Bouchard and family; niece, Shawna (Bouchard) Torres and family; as well as numerous cousins. He will also be sadly missed by his family at Gladstone, including Alan Berenbaum, Paul Bidyk, Reagan Good, as well as Kiara Hiebert and her amazing staff. Dennis left a huge imprint in on the lives of all his close friends and family and will be deeply missed. He will be forever loved and never forgotten.
Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Wakaw, SK. In lieu of other tributes, donations in Dennis’s name may be made to Riversdale Community Fridge, 315 Ave M South, Saskatoon, SK S7M 2K5.
