Delphine Wawro
It is with the utmost regret and sorrow on March 14, 2016 Delphine beloved wife of Fred passed away peacefully at Birchview Nursing Home. Delphine was born on December 6, 1938 to Lena Klimek and the late Adam Klimek and graduated from Prince Albert East Central School in June 1957. “A nurse Delphine was going to be but I doubt if she’ll take the time, for there is a guy in Steep Creek and her vow was I’ll make him mine”. She met and married the love of her life, Fred, on February 8, 1958. They settled in the Steep Creek District, later moving to the Fir Ridge District, and dedicated their lives to their children and the family farm and always shared a love and appreciation of the land and animals. Her dedicated roles as wife, mother and grandmother, were the most important things to Mom. This is where she drew her strength and legacy. She immensely enjoyed cooking for her family and many whom they welcomed unconditionally into their home. One of the most important things in Mom’s life was gardening, and she took great pride in growing beautiful gardens and flowers . With both patience and perseverance, she recognized the beauty and the satisfaction of seeing the results of her labor grow and come to fruition. One of her favorite pastimes was the endless hours she would spend during the winter months crocheting an abundance of beautiful hand-crafted tablecloths, doilies and afghans.
Delphine is survived by her loving family and numerous friends: her husband of 58 years Fred; one son: Terry (Bonnie) Wawro and their children: Brenden (Ashley), Ryan (Krista), Ashley (Christopher); Judy (Murray) Foster and Tanner; Cheryl (Jim) Kidney and their children Tanis, Candace (Shane); and Tammy (Shaun) Kuryluk; as well as three great- grandchildren.
We had two mothers – two mothers we knew. Two different people, but diverse by design. But we loved her because she was mine. The first was the mother that carried me here, gave birth and nurtured me and instilled values that would last a lifetime. She was the one whose features I bear, and made me with the charisma I wear. She gave me her love which follows me yet, along with examples she set. As I got older, she somehow grew younger and we’d laugh as mothers and children do. But then came the time that her mind clouded so. And I sensed that the mother I knew would soon go. So quickly she changed and turned into another. A stranger who dressed in the clothes of my mother. She looked the same at least at the arms length. But now she was the child and I was her strength. We’d come full circle we children of three. My mother, the second and me. How difficult it must be for you, to watch me become less of person you once knew. My body is here but my mind is not. The things we once shared. I may have forgot.
Fred you were a witness to Delphine’s life, because if you don’t have a witness, everything just seems to disappear. This will be our longest farewell, love you. We would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr.Surkan and the entire staff at the Birchview Nursing Home. We would also like to thank Tammy Kuryluk as a caregiver for the countless hours that were dedicated to Delphine during her time of need. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society, 301 – 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1. A private family service will be held at a later date.
