Delores Marie Thorpe

Delores Marie Thorpe, Age 90 passed away peacefully on April 15th, 2025. Delores was born in Prince Albert, SK. She was the oldest of five children to Arthur and Josephine Taylor. While working for SaskPower, Delores met and married Ron Thorpe in 1956. She had a busy life, centered around their five children and her husband. They lived in Meath Park, Birch Hills, Candle Lake, Prince Albert, and upon her passing in Shellbrook, SK.
Delores was a wonderful cook, making the best pies, raisin butter tarts and wild strawberry jam. When she had spare time, she enjoyed playing softball and curling. She skipped her team to many winning games in the Meath Park area. With Delores having an adventurous side, even going white water rafting in Alberta. Over the years Delores took pleasure in many hobbies. When she lost her eyesight, she continued making jewelry and knitting scarves, with a little help.
Delores was a strong and on occasion, stubborn woman who never backed down from life’s challenges. Delores had a sharp mind and wit, who worried about loved ones needlessly. She was always ready to talk or give advice to family and those she held dear. Delores had an incredible ability to learn many phrases and greetings in different languages, surprising many. She loved her new home in Shellbrook, joining in several activities and especially enjoyed, to her surprise becoming an artist.
Above all, Delores took great joy being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often hearing any family news first. She took pride in saying I knew it before all.
The family of Delores would like to give thanks to Deacon Ron, Dr. Ryan, many volunteers, friends, and all the amazing staff at the Shellbrook Long Term Care Home. We are grateful for your kindness, patience, compassion, hand holding, hair braiding, hugs, and love given.
Delores is survived by her sister Diane Matheson; her children Wendy (Alan) Weir, Danny (Pam) Thorpe, Penny (Tom) Mitchell-Molyneux, Kim (Kathy) Thorpe, Rowena and Marvin Saul; her sisters-in-law Elaine Thorpe and Bev Kirkland; her many special nieces and nephews; her grandchildren Christopher (Jackie) Weir, Kimberly (Jordan) Peterson, Bradly (Kaitlin) Weir, Sarah (Tanner) Weir, Ryan Thorpe, Allyson (Ryan) Whyllie, Nicholle (Nick) Millar, Brandy, Jolene and their children.; her great-grandchildren Lucas, Terrance, Kaylee, Audrey, Graeme and Everliegh.
Delores was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ronald Thorpe, her daughter Kathy Thorpe, her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Thorpe, her siblings, her sisters-in-law, her brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and all other family members who have gone before her.
