David Peter Krawetz
January 13, 1955 – May 19, 2026
With profound sadness, the family of David Krawetz announces his sudden passing on May 19, 2026.
Dave will be remembered and missed forever by his loving wife and best friend, Marlene; his children Greg, Malinda (Steven), Brandon, and Timothy (Shantel); and his grandchildren Hannah, Kevin, Logan, and Lukas. Dave’s memory will also be cherished by his sister Sally, his brother Ken (Gail), and his sister Mariann, as well numerous nieces, nephews, friends and community members.
He was predeceased by his mother Annie; his father Peter; his sister Betty; his brother Ernie; as well as many brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.
Dave was born in Invermay, SK, to Peter and Annie Krawetz. He grew up on the family farm where his well-known work ethic was established. He spoke so fondly of his time with his brothers and sisters on the farm and was looking forward to the 2026 Krawetz Family Reunion, which he will now attend in spirit.
He was fiercely dedicated to the love of his life and partner, Marlene, and spent countless hours working on the home and yard they shared together. He was most proud of his kids and grandchildren and spent much of his life involved in their sports, home lives, and business ventures. He was always there to help them and was relied on for life’s most important moments – the good, and the bad.
Dave loved playing and coaching hockey and ball, and was a dedicated Roughrider, Blue Jays, and Jets fan. He was heavily involved with Minor Sports, the rink, and the ball diamonds through his entire adult life, and it was hard to find a local game, tournament, or bonspiel that he didn’t make an appearance at.
Dave has made a huge impact on the Community of Big River and was proud of his time spent volunteering for the Kinsmen Club, Minor Sports, the Curling Club, and the Rec Board. He worked a number of jobs including the mill, carpentry, and fire dispatch. His proudest and most passionate job was that of Mayor where he served on a number of boards and committees and made important and lasting contributions. He always strove to make community a better place for all and will leave a lasting legacy.
The memorial service will take place at the Big River Community Centre on May 25th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Big River Minor Sports Association New Scoreboard Fund.
