David Kernohan
1957 ~ 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Joseph Kernohan on Oct 16, 2023. Fourth child of Floyd and Jennie Kernohan, Dave was born Aug 3, 1957, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and grew up on the family farm in the MacDowall area.
Over his lifetime Dave had many jobs including working in the bush and driving cattle liners often with his lifetime friend Keith Smith, but it wasn’t until he dabbled in the hydraulic field that he found his true calling. After becoming a journeyman millwright, he obtained a small business certificate and opened his own hydraulic business. He was a skilled hydraulic troubleshooter and was often sought after by many customers in the logging industry as well as agriculture and mining community. Dave was offered an opportunity in sales and finished the rest of his career there until his health diminished and could no longer work.
Although Dave was proficient in everything from carpentry to cooking, it was his love of music that was his true gift. He was one of the lead singers in the band ‘Spectacle’, Lead vocalist and main supporter of the family band ‘What Next’ and shared his musical talent with family and friends. He also belonged to the choirs ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Joy of Vox’.
One of his dearest traits was his caring personality. This was evident in the love of his son Jeff, whom he devoted his whole life to and was so proud of. Dave also had a special place in his heart for all his nephews and nieces and often participated as MC at their weddings or by singing and playing the guitar. Dave would often show up with a card and some coffee and donuts whenever there was a need or special occasion.
Under Dave’s supervision, the family has helped to develop a private retreat for all the siblings, nephews and nieces to gather. This legacy we lovingly refer to as ‘Camp David’.
We will miss Dave’s ability to make us laugh. Even when his health was failing, he could still cheer us up and bring sunshine into our lives. It is no surprise that so many wanted to be with him and that his friendship was valued by so many.
Davey is survived by his son, Jeff; brothers, Ken (Bev), Sid (Mimi); sisters, Ruth (Gord), and Judy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mom and dad, Jennie and Floyd.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Online condolences may be left at https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/riverpark/obituaries/david-kernohan/111058 . Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, (306) 764-2727, Colette Harnett, Funeral Director.
