David Ingroville
March 6, 1958 ~ February 8, 2021
The Ingroville family started in Winnipeg in 1952. David was the middle child of three. Debra was born in Winnipeg in 1956. Shortly after, the family moved to Chilliwack B.C., which is when David showed up in 1958 and Neil in 1960.
David was an explorer. When the family moved to Germany for a few years, there were trips to Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, and Holland. Dave was always anxious to see new places. I suppose seeing anywhere off an army base would be exciting, but Dave was enthusiastic about discovering new places and meeting new people. He rode in gondolas, climbed the leaning Tower of Pisa, wore wooden shoes, visited Lake Geneva, and swam in the Mediterranean Sea, all before the age of 10.
In 1964, the family moved back to Chilliwack, and like the rest of the kids, school was part of the day. Dave excelled in school. You could expect him to be in the top of the class both academically and scholastically.
After the family moved to Prince Albert, SK, Dave continued to achieve. He was captain of the basketball team, when he graduated he was on the honors list. It seemed pretty normal for him to head off to the University of Saskatchewan soon after high school. While at the U of S, he was involved in Drama and Music while continuing his sporting side with baseball and hockey.
Dave did well at university. It was at this time the cloak of schizophrenia wrapped itself around him. He held on for about a year, but eventually Dave dropped out and survived on the streets for the next decade. He still travelled and the family would get tidbits of info from him. He’s in Vancouver, he’s in Montreal, it is believed he crossed Canada several times trying to survive while being untreated.
He did survive and finally came back to Prince Albert. Dave found treatment and spent the rest of his life at the farm of Rasmussen Care Home. Although he didn’t play his guitar much anymore, he was very interested in painting and sketch art. He found a comfortable place on the farm and didn’t venture into town very often.
Dave’s life was full of adventure, exploration and not without challenges. He was a survivor and although family and friends didn’t get to see him and interact much in the last few years, they believe he carried an air of respect for those around him and a desire to do better. As tumultuous as life can be, one can’t ask for much more than that. He is lovingly remembered by his family, and his care home family.
Bless you Dave, I hope you have found the peace you were always looking for.
