1943 – 2014
With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dave was a special man. Born an educator, David was born on November 26, 1943. He became a teacher and educator, teaching in a few locations, he retired from Milden Central School after 35 years as a teacher and principal. In his retirement he taught adults at community college in Tisdale and Nipewan and Leoville, very rewarding and he loved it almost as much as teaching children.
Chitek Lake was his dream retirement. Dave loved the lake and spent many days in the outdoors, hunting and fishing were his passions. David touched many young lives in his career; there wasn’t a child he didn’t make friends with or a dog as he was also referred to as a dog whisperer. Another passion Dave had was being with his children and grandchildren. He loved them unconditionally. For several years Dave and Laurie enjoyed winters in Texas, making many special friends and memories, was great fishing there too. Dave served as Mayor in Milden, Sk. for a number of years and was quietly proud of serving his community.
Family tremendously appreciate all who were involved in Dave’s care during the last 3 1/2 years: staff, nurses and doctors at Spiritwood Medical Center, the Cancer Clinic, the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul’s Hospital and at Shellbrook Parkland Integrated Health Centre.
Leaving precious memories and unconditional love Dave is survived by his wife Laurie Somers, of 50 yrs, son Craig (Maru) and grandchildren Laura, Daniela, and Maria; daughter Pam (Tod Puddicombe) Somers all of Calgary. He also leaves his special adopted grandchildren Quinn and Charlie Cappelletto and our special friend, Mack the dog, numerous extended family and many wonderful friends. Dave is predeceased by his father Eric, mother Peggy and sister Cathy Ward.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Dave’s honor on Saturday, August 23rd, at 4:00pm from the Chitek Lake Community Hall, Chitek Lake, SK.
